Virginia Ward vonGemmingen, was born on March 29, 1927, in Cincinnati, Ohio. She moved to Lynchburg, Virginia in 1940. She graduated from E.C. Glass High School in Lynchburg. She attended Madison College, where she received a pre-nursing degree. She graduated from Johnston-Willis School of Nursing. In 1950, she married Sigmund Otto vonGemmingen and moved to Highland Springs. Her husband preceded her in death in 2002. Virginia was on staff at Laburnum Medical Center and Richmond Memorial Hospital. Virginia entered the Masonic Home of Richmond and remained there until her death on November 6, 2017. She is survived by her brother, Gerould A. Ward Jr.; her niece, Sharon of Key West, Florida; her nephew, Allen of Desdin, Florida; as well as a great-niece, Rachel of Key West, Florida; and three great nephews, John of Richmond and Iain and Aidan of Key West. She is also survived by her husband’s nieces and nephews, David of Denver, Colorado, Robert of Lakewood, Colorado, Elmslie of Virginia Beach, Jane of Richmond, Beth of Richmond and Marianne of Virginia Beach, as well as several great-nieces and nephews. Virginia joined the Highland Springs United Methodist Church in 1950, where she was active as a member of the choir and the United Methodist Women. Funeral services will be held at the Masonic Home on November 14, 2017, at 2 p.m. with burial to follow in Greenwood Memorial Gardens in Henrico County. Family will receive visitors at the Masonic Home Chapel beginning at 12:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the Masonic Home of Virginia or to the Highland Springs United Methodist Church.
