BETTY JANE COLE “Scotty”, age 90, of Rochester, died Monday, January 4, 2020. Betty was born on December 7, 1930 in Abington, Pennsylvania, daughter of the late Hugh and Katherine (Brooks) Scott. She is survived by her daughters Karen Lynn (Bill) Tombs, Debra (Jamie) Jones and Lisa (Jason) Hubbard; grandchildren Kim Rykse, Jesse Tombs, Mallory Hubbard, Mckenna Hubbard, Cole Jones and Carly Jones; great grandchildren Hailey Rykse, Maddox Rykse, Abe Rykse, Cami Tombs, Ezra Tombs and
Amelia Tombs. Betty was a counselor for 26 years with Troy Public Schools and a member of MEA and NEA. She earned a B.S. degree in Education and a M.A. degree in Guidance and Counseling from Wayne State University. In addition to her degrees, Betty completed over 40 hours of graduate in Psychology and was a Certified Social Worker. A lover of animals and nature she most enjoyed the sea and water, especially the days spent at her cottage at Stone Harbor, New Jersey, looking out over the Atlantic Ocean. Betty was a longtime member of the Rochester Garden Club and was the founder of a Book Club. She was active in the community, especially politics, and served on numerous committees in the Rochester area including ‘Music in the Park’. The family will receive friends Saturday, January 16, 2021, 2 to 3 pm at Pixley Funeral, 322 W. University Drive, Rochester. A private family memorial service will be held.
