August 10, 1974 – July 9, 2025
David Solomon Hambrick, 50, of Madison Heights, Michigan, passed away peacefully on July 9, 2025, after a courageous fight with cancer. Born in Hopewell, Virginia, on August 10, 1974, he brought warmth, humor, and insight wherever he went.
David graduated from Rochester Adams High School in 1993 and joined the U.S Army Rangers where he received an honorable discharge after being injured. He then went on to earn his undergraduate degree from Michigan State University and from there earned his Master’s in Counseling from Oakland University. David also studied the healing arts of Reiki and became a certified Reiki Master. Embarking on a compassionate career as a case manager and social worker, he touched countless lives with his empathy, wisdom, and encouraging spirit.
To Melanie, he was a devoted, caring, loving husband and soul mate who cherished every moment with her. To his beloved children, Moira and Marcus he was “Dada Man” an immensely proud, loving and protective father. He was a playful dad while continually encouraging their creative individuality. Dave found great joy in creating and cooking his own homemade meals for his family, especially his famous homemade spaghetti.
To his family, he was “Sol” or “Solly-Wally”—a man known for his humor, deep insight, and profound gratitude for life’s everyday moments. Sol was a protector as a big brother, a best friend and ready to help out at any given moment. He exemplified kindness—dropping everything to lend a listening ear, assisting someone stranded on the highway and supporting those in need.
Dave shared his lifelong passion for Dungeons & Dragons with countless friends. As a dedicated Dungeon Master, he began crafting and running his own campaign world in 1989. Over the years, he led game nights in multiple states with different groups, each one leaving a unique mark on his ever-evolving world. His quick wit, creativity, and storytelling made every session a legendary adventure.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Melanie Lyn Hambrick, and their loving children; Moira Lyn (11) and Marcus Alexander (8); parents Edward and Margaret Hay; brothers Nicholas Hay, Michael (Shannon) Hay, Patrick Hay, and sister Jacqueline Hay, all who mourn his profound loss.
Dave’s legacy lives on in every life he touched—professionally, personally, and imaginatively. May his humor, love, kindness and generosity continue to inspire us all.
In lieu of a traditional funeral service, the family will host a private celebration of life on August 16. Please email Jackie Hay for details at [email protected].
