Dorothy was born the daughter of Joe and Louise (Ranglo) Colombo on December 11, 1921, in Detroit, Michigan. She attended Denby High School in Detroit, class of 1939. Dorothy married Sulo Makinen on March 6, 1941, in Detroit. They raised their family in Detroit until Sulo passed away in 1962. Dorothy was remarried to Paul Sproviero on November 29, 1974, and they made their home in Clinton Township. Dorothy had a career with General Motors.
Dorothy loved being with people. She kept so many friends among neighbors and staff where she lived at Bellbrook over her twenty-five-year stay. Dorothy enjoyed her bible studies; volunteering in the library and Bellbrook store; and wheelchair volleyball (which she was exceptionally good at).
Dorothy is survived by her children Fred (Mary) Makinen, Nancy Mooneyham, and Marilyn (Larry) Mills; grandchildren Steven (Renee) Makinen, Laura (Bill) Black, Frederick (Christina) Makinen, Lisa (Dan) Garr, and David (Kelley) Mooneyham; great-grandchildren Morgan, Steven, Olivia, Jared, Jenna (Kile), Freddie, Avery, Haley, Ryan, Michael, Joshua (Nicole), and Kelsey (Alex); great-great grandchildren Hudson and Liam; siblings Jeanette McCurry and Genevieve Colombo; and many nieces and nephews. Dorothy was predeceased by her parents; her brothers Harold, Albert, and Joseph Colombo; and grandson Robert.
Visitation will be held on Sunday February 16, 2025, from 4-7pm at Pixley Funeral Home, located at 322 West University Drive in downtown Rochester, Michigan. A funeral service will be held on Monday February 17th at 11am (Instate 10am) at Saint John Lutheran Church, located at 1011 W. University Drive in Rochester. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton Township, Michigan.
