She was born September 12, 1928 in Queens, NY, and moved to the Detroit area in 1956. While raising four children, she earned bachelor degree from Oakland University; and later earned a master’s degree in labor relations from Wayne State University. She will be warmly remembered for her dedicated contributions as Executive Director of the AAUP (American Association of University Professors) at Oakland University, managing union negotiations and faculty/ administration relationships for over 20 years. She had a passion for the rights of all, and was a dedicated supporter of many humanitarian causes. Eileen enjoyed politics, good food and conversation; and was an avid world traveler who enjoyed immersing herself in the culture of wherever she travelled.
Eileen was a warm, supportive, and caring person who always put her family and friends first. She is survived by her sister, Jan Laurencelle; and her children: Ed Bantel, Karen Bantel (Steve Geiringer), Ellen (Thane) Ostroth and John Bantel (Lisa Beattie). She had eight grandchildren: Brian Bantel (Ruthie), Nicole Delgado, Jesse Stevens (Autumn), Jennifer Stevens (Ted Dorsey), Jeff Geiringer (Stefanie Lai), Brian Geiringer, Alec Bantel (Brooke) and Emma Bantel; six great-grandchildren: Aidan, Sterling and Jace Delgado; and Jesse, Serenity, and Ashlin Stevens; and was the aunt to eight nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Doctors Without Borders, Alzheimer's Association, American Macular Degeneration Foundation, or the charity of one's choice.
A memorial service to celebrate Eileen’s life will be scheduled at a future date when gatherings can be held safely.
