Gary David Semrau, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on December 28, 2025, at the age of 75. Born on August 3, 1950, in Hamtramck, Michigan, Gary lived a life full of dedication, creativity, and service.
Gary's journey began in Hamtramck, where he was born and raised. He proudly joined the Marines, a testament to his commitment and courage. His career path led him to become the founder and owner of Protech Home Improvement, where he not only built a successful business but also enriched the community through his craftsmanship and dedication.
On September 16, 1972, Gary married his beloved wife, Shirley. Together, they shared 53 wonderful years, a testament to their enduring love and partnership. Gary was a devoted family man, cherished by his wife, Shirley, his son, Brian, and his daughter, Michelle Groth (Paul). He was a proud grandfather to Parker and Cameron, and a loving brother to Donna Biringer (Bernie). His family also includes nieces Katie, Dana, and Denise, nephew Scott, and brother-in-law Ron.
Gary had a passion for building remote racing boats and fishing. His remarkable ability to build anything showcased his talent and creativity. He was known for his handy skills and his love for creating and improving.
A longtime member of the Knights of Columbus, Gary was deeply involved in his community. His work as a home improvement contractor allowed him to directly contribute to the betterment of the community he loved.
Friends and family are invited to pay their respects at Pixley Funeral Home, located at 322 W. University Dr., Rochester, Michigan. Visitation will be held on January 3, 2026, from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm. The funeral service will take place at the same location on January 4, 2026, at 11:00 am.
