Henry was born on January 25, 1938 in Brooklyn, NY. He was the son of Manuel A. Catherino and Concepcion (Connie) Cuadrado-Catherino, and the brother of Alice Catherino-Besiack.
Henry graduated from Brooklyn Polytechnic with a focus on Chemistry and continued his PhD studies at Penn State, specializing in Theoretical Electrochemistry.
His career took him from teaching at University of Michigan, to the Advanced Research Division at General Electric in Schenectady, NY and Gainesville, FL, where he was involved in the development of rechargeable battery technology. He continued his research work in Michigan at Energy Development Associates, Composite Technologies, General Dynamics, and finally at the US Tank Automotive Research Development Engineering Center (TARDEC).
Henry was a curious and passionate scholar, always learning and inspiring others. He was a HAM radio aficianado and a devoted member of the Franciscan Order of the Roman Catholic Church.
Henry is survived by his wife Beatrice Swords-Catherino, son William H. Catherino, daughters Dolores C. Catherino, Melanie B. Swords and Janet Swords-Formiller, grandchildren Maria, Brent, Dominic, Eleanor, Dwight, Olivia, Mitchell and 4 great grandchildren. Henry was predeceased by his first wife Helen D. Gonzalez-Catherino and son John A. Catherino.
A memorial service will be held at 12:00 pm (noon) on Saturday, March 22, 2025 at St. Irenaeus Church, 771 Old Perch Rd, Rochester Hills, MI 48309
