Hermina "Bobbie" Baker

Bobbie was born the daughter of Paul and Hermina (Rein) Levarsky in Detroit, Michigan on November 27, 1931. She graduated from East Detroit High School, class of 1949. Bobbie married James (Jim) Baker on April 28th, 1951, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in East Detroit. She and Jim raised their family in East Detroit, Utica and Rochester. Bobbie returned to college in her 40’s and earned a master’s degree in counseling from Oakland University. She was the director of Counseling at Trinity Counseling Center from 1988 - 2012. She served as a clinical supervisor for counseling students at several universities. She was past president of Michigan Association of Marriage and Family counselors. She contributed articles on Marriage and Family related issues to Ladies Home Journal and other periodicals. She also wrote the book “Grief Reflections, A Quiet Book of Comfort”. Bobbie was a member of St. John Lutheran Church.

Bobbie thought education, her own and for others was so important. She gifted dictionaries and encouraged everyone in their education. Bobbie loved to travel, especially when she and Jim were taking each grandchild on a trip for their 10th birthday.

Bobbie was predeceased by her husband Jim in 2022. She is survived by her children James Baker Jr. (Jan), Madelyn Cosens (Jim), and Alison Quitmeyer (Fritz); 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; brother Richard Levarsky (Deanna); sisters-in-law Nancy Levarsky ( Paul – deceased) and Judy Myers (Tom-deceased).

Bobbie’s family will welcome all to a visitation on Monday June 5th, 2023 from 3-8 p.m. at Pixley Funeral Home, located at 322 W. University Drive in downtown Rochester. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday June 6, 2023 at 11 a.m. (visitation 10 a.m. – 11 a.m.) at St. John Lutheran Church, located at 1011 W. University Drive in Rochester, Michigan. Interment will take place on Wednesday June 7th, 2023 at 10 a.m. at Glen Eden Cemetery in Livonia.
