NEWTON, Illa Jean, 89, of Huntington Woods, passed away September 24, 2017. She was born in Ferndale on October 8, 1927. Jean graduated from Lincoln High School and received her Master’s degree from Wayne State University. Jean taught English for Ferndale Public Schools and had a passion for her family, sewing, quilting and gardening. She is survived by her husband, Victor Thomas Newton, Jr.; children, Robert Newton and Christopher Newton; grandchildren, Hope, Shawna and David; great-grandchildren; Harmony, Heather, James, Jordan, Jasmyne, Julyssa, Julyann, Gabrael, Trinity and Avery; predeceased by granddaughter, Chrissy. The family will welcome visitors Sunday, October 1, 2017 from 2 – 6 pm at Pixley Funeral Home, 322 W.
