I miss you brother. When you had to leave us, there just isn't words to express the loss. Time goes on and we will do our best.

I have no words to describe what Jim's brilliance, compassion, guidance, professionalism, and humor meant to me.  I carry all of the wisdom he shared with me to this day

My deepest condolences to his wife, children and grandchildren.  I was fortunate enough to try a case against Jim.  Hands down one of the best trial lawyers I have ever seen in court.  He will be missed in the legal community.

I am so saddened to hear of Jim's passing.  He was such a wonderful colleague and I respected him in so many ways.  He will truly be missed. 

I am truly blessed that Jim was a part of my life.  He was a man who treated every person as they were the most important person in the room!  He truly believed the janitor was no different than the CEO ❤️. He was amazing boss and unbelievable person and friend.  There was no one else like him and there never will be.  Thank you Jim for touching my life and making me a better person.  Heaven just got the best there is!  Until we meet again…. 🥰

Jim Hewson was an incredibly nice man.  He always was polite when I worked for him taking depositions.  I could always rely on him to treat me (a court reporter) with dignity and respect.  

I did not know he was a friend of Bill W.  When my own father passed away, he had been sober for 50 years.  

I wish his family to be comforted by their memories of such an amazing man.

Jim was a gift to all that knew him.  He was so exceptionally kind and funny, passionate and intelligent. We met Jim and Diane the day we were making a final decision about which house to buy. They were stopping by to see the progress on their house and walked across the street where we were with the builder.  After talking with them for 5 minutes, I told my hubby that's it...that was the deciding factor...I wanted to be their neighbors and friends! What a treasure your friendship has been these last 13 years.  I wish we all got another 30 years of Jim!

I learned so much from him and I will always remember the impact he made in my professional life. The legal community could benefit from more lawyers like Jim. We were so sad to hear of Jim's passing. He was truly one of the greats and we will remember him for having the biggest heart. He always had stories to tell that would make everyone in the room laugh until they had tears in their eyes.

I’ve known Jim and a Diane for nine+ years,  and they have shared their extended families with us. What a treat. Looking  at ALL the pictures posted, I realize once again what a fantastic life they have shared with each other. It’s all about family. 
What I didn’t realize was that Jim could ‘cut a rug’.  Jim probably didn’t realize that I can cut a rug, too.  An opportunity missed. 
Jim allowed me to sob, laugh, share without judgment and the kindness he bestowed on many. I will be forever grateful. 
The last time I was with Jim, I was sitting next to him at a restaurant with taxidermied animals all around. Saylor came to him and asked how these animals were so real yet they weren’t moving.  Jim’s explanation to her was astounding… he didn’t mince words but explained  the phenomenon with all the compassion of a saint. How did he do that?  That was Jim. Always the educator. And so very thoughtful. 
I will miss our lake time with him, the fabulous conversations we all shared , and a  wee spot o tea!

Jim was a great man.  An excellent example of what a man should be.  I will miss so many things about him. What a gift.  I will always remember you Jim.

16 years ago I sat across a table from Jim Hewson and Jerry VanHellemont and I knew I had embarked upon greatness. Even in the interview, it felt like I was sitting with family. 

One of my favorite memories of Jim was sometime ago. I was given a list of people for the birthdays of the month. I ran out to store with the list and came back. We start singing and Jim notices his name was not on there. Let’s just say, he had lots to say about his name on being on there in front of everyone. He sent an email out to everyone later that day saying the office was closing down early  and everyone could leave but me because I left his name off the cake. Needless to say, I never picked up the cakes again. 

Jim smiled with his heart and if you were lucky enough to ever get a hug from you, he hugged you from his soul.

Jim had an innate ability to make anyone believe in themselves. Jim found value in everyone he met and everything he did. He was so kind but yet such a giant force. I have never met someone so gentle, patient and kind. Jim was sheer perfection and greatness. 

There will never be another one like Jim. Again, my thoughts and prayers are with all of you.  🙏💚

Dear Family and Friends,

It was with great sorrow and shock that I heard of Jim's passing.  His strength of character, passion, and energy were so strong it's hard to imagine him not being around forever. 

He was incredibly patient with me frequently "ambushing him" with a hundred questions as he was arriving or leaving work.   While we were on different sides in business, he never hesitated in providing me with guidance, education, and a level of mentorship - and truly cared about doing the right thing for every person.

I will forever be thankful for the lessons and education.  He will be sorely missed by all.  Please accept my sincerest condolences.  May you find comfort and solace in those who mourn Jim.

Jim was one of the kindest people I have ever met and had the honor and privilege to work with him.  He was so smart, funny and truly cared about all of his colleagues, employees and all those around him.   He was truly the most amazing person.  You will be missed by many. Jim was one of the kindest and best humans to ever have walked the earth. It would be easy to become jaded, looking for lies and untruths. But that wasn’t Jim, he always saw each person as a person worthy of life and redemption. I remember walking with Jim in Detroit headed to lunch in the middle of a trial, and an un housed person was on the street. Jim stopped spoke with the man, really listening and looked him in the eye. Gave him some money and offered to buy the man lunch. Watching Jim I could tell this was a regular occurrence. That’s just who he was kind and ridiculously funny and the smartest person I’ve ever known. We were so lucky to have him walk amongst us mere mortals. Rest easy Jim.

I am so very sad to hear of Jim's passing. I will forever be grateful for the opportunities provided by him while I was employed with HVH. I have very fond memories of Jim, especially those memories where he was the most profound mentor I have ever had in my career. Diane, Syd, and the rest of the family - I am so very sorry. Please let me know if you need anything at all. Jim's memory will go on as a legacy.

I am so sorry for your loss. I remember being in your office for a lunch and learn specifically with you Diane, and then Jim stopped by just to say hello. He sat and began to talk so passionately about what we do, different scenarios etc, he had all of us mesmerized! We could have sat there all day listening to him. I'm so thankful for that experience.
