Joan (Heaphy) Allen, 93, of Rochester Hills passed away peacefully on March 28, 2022. She was born in Detroit, MI. She and her husband Robert P. Allen were married for 44 years, until his passing in 1997.
She graduated from Oakland University with a passion for writing. Joan was a featured writer in several local newspapers. She loved spending time with her family and was active in many local service organizations including Meadowbrook Women’s Club. As a result of her passion for crochet, her family will be forever surrounded in warmth from her many projects.
She is survived by her children Dorothea Allen Broman (John), Lea Allen Ray (Eddie), and Johanna Allen, her grandchildren Amanda Ray Zmijewski (Kevin), Meredith Ray (Nick), William Broman, and Charlotte Broman, her brother William J. Heaphy, sister-in-law Jane Allen, several nieces and nephews and many beloved animals. She is predeceased by sister Ann Cogswell Stanton, brother and sister-in-law Jack and Martha Heaphy, sister-in-law Anne Heaphy, brother-in-law Jack Allen, and sister-in-law Doroty McBratney.
A memorial gathering will be held on Thursday, May 26, 2022 from 5-8 PM at Pixley Funeral Home in Rochester. A celebration of life will be held on Friday, May 27, 2022 at 10 AM, with gathering beginning at 9 AM, at Pixley Funeral Home in Rochester.
