

Lester Verlin Marshall, 80, of Rochester Hills Michigan, passed away on Thursday October 12, 2017. Lester was the loving husband of Hontas for 48 years; dear father of Donna Marshall, Debra Ford, Brian (Debbie) Marshall, Gary (Helen) Marshall, and Steven Marshall; cherished grandfather of Michael (Premi) Haynes, Katy Nickerson, Douglas (Kimberly) Ford, and Autumn Marshall; and great-grandfather of Titus Haynes, Tomas Nickerson, Margo Nickerson; caring brother of Jim (Ida May) Marshall, George (Kathy) Marshall, Nada (Russell) Thorpe, Dorothy (Forest) Edwards, Bobby (Janet) Marshall, Hannah O’Berry, and Glenn (Joyce) Marshall.
Lester was born the son of Roland and Virginia (M’Clancy) Marshall in Beattyville, Kentucky on February 5, 1937. He married Hontas Thurnham on July 3, 1969 and they raised their family in Rochester Hills. Lester liked being out in nature, often for hunting, especially in northern Michigan. He is known for his second place finish in the national sling-shot competition in Chicago (his brother took first). Lester enjoyed reading, restoring old garden tractors, and listening to the Tigers on the radio.
Lester’s family will welcome friends for a visitation on Monday October 14, 2017 from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Pixley Funeral Home, 322 W. University Drive in downtown Rochester. Memorial contributions may be made in Lester’s honor to the American Heart Association (heart.org).
