Loretta was born the daughter of Lewis and Betty (Ross) Smith on January 25, 1940, in Jackson, Michigan. She graduated from Jackson High School, class of 1958. Loretta earned her bachelors, masters, and PHD from Western Michigan University. She married Tony Church on August 11, 1962, in Jackson. Loretta had a successful career in college administration for several schools including Kellogg Community College, Mayland Community College, and Macomb Community College.
Loretta loved her friends and family. She was a very social person, enjoying golf and entertaining. Loretta loved reading, traveling, and time at her house on the lake.
Loretta was predeceased by her husband Tony Church. She is survived by her children Tonya Church, Todd (Tracie) Church, and stepson David Poirier; grandchildren Kayla (Daniel) Cross and Jacob Church; great-grandchildren Emmett and Connell Cross; siblings Kelvin (Anne) Smith and Nancy Teel; and loving nieces and nephews. Loretta was also predeceased by her parents, and life partner Leon Poirier.
