Mary was born the daughter of Charles N. Steward and Mary E. (Johnson) Steward in Rochester, Michigan on November 16, 1931.
Mary was a proud mother to her daughters, Linda Madson, Cheryl Madson (deceased). Mary was predeceased by her husband James Madson, her parents, brothers and sisters.
Mary graduated from Rochester High School, class of 1949. She married James Madson on January 19, 1963, at St. John Lutheran Church in Rochester. Mary and James raised their family in Rochester Hills where Mary worked first at National Twist Drill and later as the cafeteria manager for Rochester High School. She had a passion for cooking. Mary was a member of St. John Lutheran Church and the American Legion Auxiliary.
Mary always put her family first and would stop everything to help others. She was a very social person. Her Christian faith was very important to her. Mary was active in the community. In younger years, she loved to travel with friends. Mary was an excellent bowler on many bowling leagues throughout her life. Mary instilled in her children a passion for Jesus and putting others needs ahead of your own. Mary was a doer, always figuring out how to accomplish what was important to her.
All are invited to a memorial visitation on Tuesday September 16, 2025, from 10:30am until the time of the memorial service at 11:30am at Pixley Funeral Home located at 322 W. University Drive in downtown Rochester, Michigan. A luncheon will follow the service. Interment will be at 2pm at Mt. Avon Cemetery in Rochester, Michigan.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mary’s honor to Our Shepherd Lutheran Church – Love for Others Fund. Envelopes will be provided at Pixley Funeral Home.
