

Selander Nell R. Age 103, of Rochester Hills, September 6, 2010. Beloved mother of Stephen (Marie) Selander and Julie (William) Damon. Cherished grandmother of Scott (Kelly) Damon, Debora (William) Pennington, Bradley (Heather) Halls, Christopher Olson and Dana (Glen) Byrd. Great-grandmother of Dean, Leland and Eva Damon, William, Caroline, Jacob and Gabriel Pennington, Emily and Cameron Halls, Zoe and Zachary Olson and Maya and Nick Byrd. The three things that Nell loved the most in life were her children, grandchildren and University of Michigan football. She was born in Hundred, West Virginia during the presidency of Theodore Roosevelt. Nell was the youngest of five children and believed that her name was "Nellie Sweetheart" during her childhood. She was a graduate of the University of West Virginia and earned a Masters Degree in English from the University of Michigan in 1934. Nell was an avid reader and an accomplished pianist. For many years she swam a mile three times a week at the Women's City Club and the Detroit Boat Club. Nell loved playing bridge and attending plays. She was an active member of Central Woodward Christian Church and its "Round Table" group. She enjoyed traveling in South America, Europe, Mexico and the Caribbean. In her mid eighties she snorkeled in the Cayman Islands and went white water rafting in Tennessee. She enjoyed a rich life and will be greatly missed by her family. The family will be receiving friends on Saturday at Pixley Funeral Home, 322 W.
