

Richard Charles Bastien, age 82 of Warren, Michigan passed away on Monday, April 21, 2025. Richard was born on January 8, 1943 in Detroit, Michigan, the son of Paul and Valeria (Sadjak) Bastien. He went to school at De La Salle Collegiate High School. He attended South Macomb Community College where he met many of his lifelong friends. He served as a Sergeant in the United States Army where he worked on guided missiles. He graduated from Lawrence Technological University. He worked as an engineer for Chrysler for nearly 30 years, retiring from Advanced Engine Systems Development. Richard lovingly cared for his mother for many years.
Richard is preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Valeria, his niece’s husband, Kevin Harp and his great-nephew, Chase Malinowski.
Richard is survived by his sister Clara (Marvin) Johnson and brother George (Patricia) Bastien. He is also survived by 7 nieces and nephews, their spouses, children and grandchildren, to whom he loved to recite ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas by Clement C. Moore and poems by Robert Frost. Uncle Richard will always be remembered for singing It's Only a Paper Moon, his teasing and jokes and holiday pies! He spent many weekends travelling with friends to sail in Hobie Cat races. He loved sailing at the family cottage in North Lakeport and spent time teaching his nephews the art of reading the winds. He had close relationships with his neighbors, including neighborhood dogs, for whom he kept treats. In retirement, Richard enjoyed woodworking projects, his flower garden, as well as keeping up with the daily stock market which he discussed with his nephews and great-nephews. He listened to a variety of musical genres from generation to generation.
Richard C. Bastien will lie in-state on Saturday, April 26th 10:00am at St. Irenaeus Catholic Church, 771 Old Perch Rd, Rochester Hills, until the time of the Funeral Mass at 11:00am. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton Township, Michigan at a later date.
