Rick graduated from Iron River High School in Iron River, MI. Following High School, he attended GMI (now Kettering University) and earned a degree in mechanical engineering. Rick was an automotive industry veteran and worked in various engineering and management roles. Starting at GM as a Co-Op in 1967, his career also included work at Ford, AMC, Creative Industries, MSX International, RLE International & Chrysler, finally retiring in 2012 after 45 years in the industry. After retirement, Rick continued to work as an engineering consultant through his company, Creative Product Development services.
In his spare time, Rick spent as much time as possible on the water. He enjoyed boating and had a great love for sailing. When the water would freeze, he would continue to spend time on the water with his iceboat. Rick was an athlete, in his youth he played football, basketball and track but his real love came later in playing tennis. Rick was part of a tennis league for several years and many feared his serve! In recent years he played pickleball and table tennis and continued every day to try to stay active.
Above all else, Rick was a devoted father and “Grampy” and truly loved spending time with his family. He taught his children the beauty of adventure, value of hard work and faith in God. Rick showed those around him what it was to fight and endure. Instilling in his family the “never give up” attitude and the importance of showing up for others when needed.
Rick is survived by his children, Ian (Anne) Perry, Molly (Bill) Fox, Emma (Kevin) Schulte and Meghan Perry, Grandchildren, Ana Norton, Liam Norton, Mary Fox, Eleanore Fox, Quinn Perry and Brooke Schulte.
