I knew a Bob Goldsmith that I worked with for many years at Great Lakes Steel and then again at headquarters in Mishawaka Indiana. I think but am not sure if this was the Bob Goldsmith I knew. Don't recognize the picture but haven't seen Bob for many years. Can anyone send me an e-mail address at oldoyle@comcast.net if this was the person I new. Our deepest sympathy to you and your family. Goldsmith was an outstanding man and I'll always think of the many times at parties I would hope to sit next to him.  His conversation was genuine and delightful!  Sharing a birthday with him on Feb 4th, I would always look forward to his call or card.  He definitely was one my all time favorites. Today, I am so very proud to say I was a true friend to Robert Goldsmith. Over the years he has meant many things to me, from Father in Law to friend, and friend to mentor. My life is better because I had Bob as part of it. My son's life is better for having the best Grandfather you could ever ask for. WE ARE TRUELY BLESSED !!!

Though time does not allow me to thank this beautiful man, but allow me to share a few words with you. I believe you will see through my words the type a person we all wish we had in our brief time here.

When Jared my son was born, it was the greatest time in my life.  To see Roberts joy in his eyes, and to have those precious times with his Grandson , It made everything that much more incredibly special. Those were the times that I will never forget. When Jared was an infant, he would be so excited to see him, his little arms would reach out to him and could not wait to be in gramps arms. There was a strong bond and it continued to become stronger as he got older. You could feel their love for each other, something like I have never seen before. It was such a pleasure to see the Joy  Jared  and Robert shared together.

I am forever grateful to Robert. I had some very rough times when Jared was young at the beginning of elementary School.  I truly believed my life , in so many ways was over. I was ashamed and felt that I had failed in every aspect of life. The last thing that I wanted to do was reach out for help to my Father in Law and son. I did want to see anybody at all, especially Jared and Grampa , because of the state of mind I was in . I now hid from everybody for quite some time.

There was one person that got through to me , and that was Bob Goldsmith. He is the most Cherished human to me, a man I  completely love and respect. They called him "GOLDIE",
my man Robert Goldsmith. He Had the right words to say quick phone calls, notes, emails and letters that he would send to me in the mail. Robert's wisdom, compassion, &  understanding can lift a person out of a very difficult situation. Each letter, each note, that he sent and each word that he spoke meant the world to me and still does to this day.

To tell you the truth , I really do not know what I would of done without this precious man. I really think of him as my second father. 

Because of his influence and his belief in me , I am a better father, a better son , and a better person.  Bob, I will continue to honor you all my days and hope to make you very proud.

Goldie was my pal 50 years or more ago.  We played basketball for Ambrose and Petrakis, and had some great times listening to Krupa's solo on "Sing, Sing, Sing," which he could mimic (almost).

He was energetic, tough, scrappy in particular, and -- let's face it -- better than I.  I loved the guy and I'm saddened at his death. Those were great years, Goldie.  I will miss you.

Please accept my condolensces.  Mr. Goldsmith was a great patient who tried endlessly to make a difference not only for himself, but for others.  He goes down in our books as one of our HEROs.  He devoted a significant amount of his life to clinical research in hopes of defining better treatment outcomes for both himself as well as others.  You will always remember him as a husband and a friend, we will always remember him as one of our Heros.  Thank you for the opportunity to be part of his life, if only for a short while. When I think of Bob, I think of the sparkle in his eyes.  He was ready for just about anything.  Bob seemed to have this wonderful zest for life, and he wanted to enjoy every part of it.   He was also a very kind person, and took time to listen and help when possible.  Bob was devoted to his parents.  He cared about his father, and wanted to make him proud; and of course, Don was proud of all he accomplished.  Bob took such wonderful care of his mother when her health was failing.   He was always trying to get her out and do things with him and “Varner”.  Bob was a terrific person, one that will be sorely missed, and never forgotten.  Barb Redford
