Sandy was born on April 16, 1964, in Kingsland, Georgia, and raised in West Bloomfield, Michigan. She was the cherished daughter of Judith and John Mars Sr. and the beloved sister of Beth and John Jr. (Lisa) Mars. A proud graduate of Michigan State University, Sandy dedicated her career to higher education and the arts, working at Davenport University and the Macomb Center for the Performing Arts.
Above all else, Sandy’s greatest joy in life was her family. She was the devoted mother of her one and only daughter, Jessica Lynn (Lance) Van Meeteren, and the adoring “Mommom” to her grandchildren, Collins Jean and Graham William, who were the absolute light of her life. She embraced every moment with them, filling their days with love, laughter, and a little extra spoiling. Sandy was also a proud and loving aunt to her nieces, Melissa and Allison Mars.
Sandy had a gift for finding beauty in life’s big moments and its simple joys. She loved crafting, gardening, and watching birds and sunsets. She was also known as a wonderful cook, making sure every meal she prepared left hearts full and bellies happy. To her friends and loved ones, she was a constant source of kindness, encouragement, and strength. She will be remembered for her loyalty, her unwavering support, and the way she always showed up for those she cared about—especially her “Core” group of lifelong friends and her work family.
Her legacy of love, generosity, and devotion will continue to live on through her family and all whose lives she touched.
