Shelagh Marie Houtteman

Houtteman, Shelagh M. of Rochester Hills, Age 95, died Friday, October 29, 2021 at her home. Shelagh was born in Rahway, New Jersey on March 31, 1926. She was an accomplished swimmer and diver before her marriage to Detroit Tigers' pitcher Art Houtteman on October 7, 1950. A talented cook, seamstress, and decorator, beauty and excellence ruled. She had a fiercely competitive spirit and spared no effort to do her best at everything she did and the results were exceptional. Passionately devoted to animals, she had a special love for the Arabian horses her family raised and showed over many years. Surviving are daughters, Holly Niec of Holmen, Wisconsin, Sharon Wipperman of Marion, Ohio, and daughter-in-law, Lynne Houtteman of Westfield, Indiana. Six grandchildren, Stephanie (Ben) Wells, Georgienne (Marc) Kirsten, Jessica Mrowzinski, Kelly Wipperman, Chad Wipperman, and Matthew Houtteman. Four great grandchildren, Dylan, Peyton, Joelle, and Bowen. She was preceded in death by daughter, Sheryl Lynne, husband, "Artie", two sisters, Martha Kelly Nugent and Marian Carey, and son, Jeffrey Charles.
