Born on February 22, 1955, in Detroit, Michigan, Shelley was the beloved daughter of William and Geraldine Gilbert. She was raised in the Madison Heights area and graduated from Lamphere High School. Shelley went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Music from Wayne State University, where her love of music flourished.
Following college, Shelley worked as an office manager at Flute Center USA. She later pursued her calling in ministry, serving faithfully in various roles including organist and choir director. In 2001, she received her Pastoral License from the Berean School of the Bible through the Assemblies of God. She furthered her education and ministry by earning a Christian Counseling degree in 2022. Shelley retired in 2024 after 25 years of dedicated service as administrator at Auburn Hills Christian Center.
A woman of deep and unwavering faith, Shelley devoted her life to serving the Lord and uplifting her community. She taught Bible studies, directed children’s musicals, and joyfully shared her love for Christ with others. A gifted musician, Shelley played piano, guitar, and sang, though she was especially known for her exceptional skill on the flute. She also taught both flute and piano to countless students over the years.
Shelley had a passion for Detroit sports and was her family’s resident genealogist, delving into the rich history of her large and loving family.
She is survived by her brothers, Randall (Jerri) Gilbert and Dale (Laura) Gilbert; seven nieces and nephews; and ten great-nieces and great-nephews—each of whom brought her immense joy and pride.
