Victoria Katelyn Sweet

Our beloved daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece, cousin and friend Victoria “Katie” Sweet, 28 of Macomb Township, MI passed away peacefully in the presence of family on April 19th, 2021. She spent the last 3.5 years of her life battling cancer with barely a complaint nor a tear while maintaining a tremendous sense of humor. Katie loved her family and friends deeply and always found a way to enjoy life.

The relationship she had with her brother, Michael Sweet, was not like any other. Katie was an amazing big sister who cherished time spent with her brother and she ALWAYS had his back. Their unique way of communicating through expletive filled banter left others wondering but both of them with a loving and knowing smile.

Katie was a great hockey player and even better team mate with a fierce competitive edge, great skill, and sassy camaraderie. She loved the finer things in life such as dining out, cooking gourmet food and shopping. The fact that she was born on St. Patrick’s Day (3/17/1993) promoted her attraction to a great party. She was the life of the party with her beautiful smile and contagious laugh.

Katie loved to travel. Favorite destinations included Secord Lake, visiting family in Florida, and long weekends anywhere with friends. She was also a talented self-taught artist that shared her virtuosity through those things she found beautiful in nature. While she had a career in Information Technology supporting Oakland Schools, Katie was also an avid learner with many interests especially wildlife conservation, classic cars, history and all things science.

She is survived by her brother Michael Sweet, father Todd Sweet and wife April, mother Deanine Todd and husband Dan, grandmother Vivian (Randall) McGillis, grandfather Richard (Patti) Niergarth, Cindy Furkovich, stepsisters Sarah Pavliscak, Kristin (Stefan) Hazinakis and beloved boyfriend Matt Fletcher. In addition, many Aunts, Uncles and Cousins.

No funeral arrangements will be made, instead a ‘Celebration of Life’ gathering will be held for family and friends in the near future.
