Vi was born on May 31, 1926 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Edwin and Viola (Sielaff) Herz. As a child, Vi attended Detroit Wilkins Elementary School and then went to on to graduate from Commerce High School. On October 20, 1945 she married Alfred H. Renius at Mt. Zion Lutheran Church in Detroit.
Al and Vi later moved to Rochester and then they eventually made their way to Caseville. While in Rochester, after all the children were in school, Vi worked for Rochester Community Schools. She was the superintendent’s secretary and worked for three other superintendents during her career. Vi was a lifetime member of Red Arrow American Legion #361 Auxiliary.
Vi was preceded in death by her husband Al Renius; and her parents Edwin and Viola Herz. She is survived by her children, Mark (Sandra) of Temperance, Carl of Rochester, Craig (Gail) of Grants Pass, Oregon, and Nancy (Dale) Ahern of Rochester Hills; her grandchildren, Bryan (Kristen), Christopher (Stephanie), Elizabeth, Amanda, Elaina (Brandon), Curtis (Brittany), Ryan, Dylan, and Emma Rose; and her great grandchildren, Brendan, Alexander, Emma Nicole, Derek, Meghan, Kyleigh, Lauren, Madeline, Breslin and Everest.
A Memorial Gathering will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2020 from 12:30-1:30 PM, with a Service beginning at 1:30 PM, at Pixley Funeral Home, 322 W. University Dr., Rochester, MI.
Donations may be made in Vi’s memory to Alzheimer’s Association or Leader Dogs for the Blind.
