Joanne Ryan Errett

Joanne grew up in Jeannette, PA and attended Slippery Rock State Teachers College (now Slippery Rock University), earning a degree in Health and Physical Education.

In 1955 she married Naval LTJG Roger Ryan of Chateaugay, NY. The family grew as they moved with Roger’s naval assignments, including Virgina, Florida, the Guantanamo Bay Naval Base in Cuba, Texas, and Southern California.

After Roger’s death in 1971, Joanne and her children moved back East to be near family, settling in Elba, NY. She held several jobs, including General Manager of a pharmaceutical packaging plant called PharmPac Co. Inc. and co-owner of a Mastectomy Boutique in Fairport, NY. In 1987, Joanne became the first woman allowed membership in the local Rotary Club.

In 1991 Joanne married William (Bill) Errett and returned to the Jeannette, PA area. They kept busy with activities involving both their blended family and many friends. Joanne and Bill also enjoyed travelling around the United States, the Caribbean, and a cruise through the Panama Canal.

Joanne moved to Rochester, NY in 2016 following Bill’s death. She has been living with her daughter Mary Beth and family ever since. Her daughter Marylou and family also lived nearby.

Joanne is survived by her sister Peg Ryan, her sister-in-law Betty (Errett) Lauffer, her daughters Mary Jo Ryan, Mary Beth Strohm, and Marylou Williams, her son Terry Ryan, her stepsons Russell, Ken, and John Errett, their spouses, her grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Her son, Patrick Ryan, predeceased her.

A celebration of life, including a funeral mass, will be held this spring/summer. Services details will be posted here when available.
