Jocelyn enjoyed an exceptional career, rising to become Executive Director of Children's National Medical Center, Washington, DC. She received her Doctor of Physiology and Biophysics in 1971 from Georgetown University.
Dr. Hicks authored 18 books and 80 peer-reviewed articles during her career. She was awarded Honorary Membership in Clinical Chemistry from four countries.
Dr. Hicks was the President of the American Association of Clinical Chemistry (AACC) and then became the first female President of the International Federation of Clinical Chemistry (IFCC). The IFCC awarded Dr. Hicks the 2017 IFCC Henry Wishinsky Award for Distinguished International Service.
Dr. Hicks is survived by her sister, Rosalind Watkins, her nephews James Lewis and Mark Lewis, grandnieces, Harriett, Amy and Sophie, and grandnephews, Ben, Julius and Oscar who all reside in the UK where Jocelyn was born in 1937.
She loved to travel both for business and pleasure. She visited dozens of countries either as a guest speaker or a tourist. She enjoyed playing bridge and social occasions, and she will be remembered as being extremely generous to friends and relatives.
