Alberta Mae Hovanec

Alberta M. Hovanec passed away on Tuesday, 24 February 2026, at the age of 94. Alberta was born on 15 May 1931 to Theresia (nee Miller) and Alexander Albert Ziegler in Pittsburgh, PA.

Alberta graduated from Oliver High School in Pittsburgh in 1949. She worked as a secretarial assistant in a Pittsburgh-based engineering firm before marrying her husband, Michael J. Hovanec. Alberta and Michael built a home, family, and life in Center Township, PA. They later moved to Alpharetta, GA to be closer to their daughter.

Alberta was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and younger brothers, Frank and Robert.

Alberta will be missed by her family and friends -- especially her children, Raymond (Nikki Knox) Hovanec, Michael Jr. (Ellen) Hovanec, and Terri (Jeff) Coons; her grandchildren, Raymond Jr. (Shena), Michael, Sarah (Hunter), and Veronica; her greatgrandchildren, James, Caleb, and Amelia; and her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Robert (Blanche) Hovanec.

A funeral Mass will be held on 13 March 2026 @ 10am at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Alpharetta, GA. A Catholic Rite of Committal will take place on 21 March 2026 @ 11am at Sylvania Hills Memorial Park Mausoleum (Westminster Chapel) in Rochester, PA.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Alberta’s name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (stjude.org).
