

Donald R. Weigel, 86, of New Brighton, passed away Thursday, February 28, 2013. He was born September 10, 1926 in Harmony, PA, son of the late Leroy and Marjorie (Covert) Weigel. He proudly served his country with the U.S. Navy during WWII. Donald retired from Stitt Furniture after 36 years of service and from SEARS after 12 years of service. He was a member of Masonic Lodge 259, New Brighton and a 33rd Degree Scottish Rite Mason, New Castle Consistory. In his leisure, Donald liked to hunt, fish and tend a garden. Donald loved the Christmas Season; and each year, beginning in late fall, he would get all of his decorations ready for his family and neighbors to enjoy.
In addition to his parents, Donald was preceded in death by four brothers: Richard, Blair, Gary Bryant and infant William.
He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years: Edith (Preston) Weigel; three daughters and a son-in-law: Donna Watson, Selkirk, NY; Connie (Larry Chamberlain) Weigel, New Brighton; Edith (Alan) Thomas, Kittanning, PA; four grandchildren: Quent (Andrea) Weigle, Delmar, NY; Michele (Paul) Herdt-Losavio, PhD, Selkirk, NY; Jennifer (Robert) Bellas, Kittanning; Thomas (Kara Thurman) Hartman, Odessa, TX; and three great grandchildren: Michael, Preston and Payton.
Friends will be received today from 3 to 8 p.m. in the SAUL-GABAUER FUNERAL HOME, INC., 273 Route 68, Rochester (adjacent to Sylvania Hills Memorial Park Mausoleum). A Masonic Service will be held at 7 p.m. by his Lodge Brothers.
His funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, March 4, 2013 with Pastor Edward Heist, officiating. Private interment will follow in Sylvania Hills Memorial Park.
Military Honors will be presented by members of the Beaver County Special Unit, 11 a.m., Monday in the Funeral Home. If desired, memorial contributions may be directed to the Historical Harmony Society of Beaver County.
