Lorraine Roberts

Lorraine (a.k.a. Roberta) Lemmon Roberts 89, of Vanport, passed away February 29. She was born on 29 July 1934, celebrated as Rain Day in Waynesburg, PA. She grew up in New Freeport, PA, daughter of the late Thomas Lemmon and Pauline Smith. She graduated high school and beauty school before starting her own business: Lorraine’s Beauty Shop in Rogersville and Rice’s Landing. She married Blaine Roberts Jr. on 1 December 1956.

Lorraine was the president of both the Rochester Rams Football Mothers and the Mothers of Twins Club. She was auxiliary member of the Monaca Legion and the Rochester VFW. She was a social member of the Rochester Township Firemen’s Club, Turners, Saxons, Monaca S.O.I. and VFW. Her past-times include volleyball, softball, and The Eight Balls bowling team. Lorraine worked in Pittsburgh at The Pajama Factory, in Rochester at Bell Telephone and Kaufmann’s, in Monaca at the PNA, the Pittsburgh International Airport, Phoenix Glass, and Seven Oaks Country Club. As a creative writer, she crafted short stories about her grandchildren for the Institute of Children’s Literature.

Lorraine enjoyed watching Murder She Wrote, Golden Girls, Sheldon, Ghosts, & Ridiculousness. She loved to read & would visit the library weekly. Lorraine would easily read a paper bag full of books. She also enjoyed sitting on her porch, greeting her friends & neighbors and loving all their compliments on her garden of morning glories surrounding her yard.

Lorraine & her family would like to thank 3 Oaks Hospice, especially Rachel, Nicole & Maria; as well as the caring staff at Cambridge Village for their comfort & support.

Lorraine is proud of the legacy she built: her family. Her children fondly recall a tradition of holiday baking, when she would gift loved ones with an abundance of cookies and fudge. Lorraine leaves behind her sister, Ramona Bice, and children, Kathy “Hoppie” Sharon Roberts, Dan Shane (Sue) Roberts, Larry Shannon Roberts, Cindy Sharlene (John) Trevelline, and Cristy Shawna Roberts. Her grandchildren are Jessica (Jesse) and Curtis (Tiffanie) Smilek; Dr. Elan “EJ” Pavlinich; Amber (Ray) Dyer; Casey (Lane) Wolfe; Emily, and Samantha Trevelline; Amy (Greg), Alyse (Michael), and Eric (Sarah) Roberts; Josh (Sheila) and Joey (Stephanie) Plassmeyer. Her beloved cats include Thorn and Whiskers. She cherishes the many friendships she forged beyond her immediate family.

Lorraine was preceded in death by her brother, Tom Lemmon, her parents, and her husband.

Visitation will be held on Monday, March 4, 2024 from 2-4 and 6-8pm and Catholic Blessing Service will be held on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, at 11:00 am at the SAUL-GABAUER FUNERAL HOME, INC., 273 Route 68, Rochester (adjacent to the Sylvania Hills Memorial Park Mausoleum).
