Michael J. Hovanec, 90, formerly of Ambridge and Center Township, passed on March 2, 2019 just a few days shy of his 91st birthday. Michael was born March 15, 1928 in Ambridge, son of the late Michael Stephen and Mary Julia (Jahoda) Hovanec. He was raised in Ambridge and a graduate of Ambridge High School, Class of 1946. Michael proudly served his country with the U.S. Navy. After his honorable discharge, he returned to Beaver County and worked at Armco Steel, Ambridge retiring with 40 years of service. He and his wife Alberta made their home, and raised their children, in Center Township from 1964 until his final year in Alpharetta, GA, where he and Alberta moved to be near their daughter Terri.
He will always be remembered as a strong and steadfast husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, and avid golfer, whose simple lifestyle belied his acumen in all things practical. Family and friends will mourn the loss of his good nature, quick wit, and common sense in everyday life.
Michael is survived by his loving wife: Alberta Mae (Ziegler) Hovanec; his children and their spouses: Ray (Nikki Knox) Hovanec, Bear, DE; Michael “Mick” (Ellen) Hovanec, Memphis, TN; Terri (Jeff) Coons, Alpharetta, GA; grandchildren: Raymond Hovanec, Jr. Fairfax, VA; Michael, III and Sarah Hovanec, Memphis; Veronica Coons, Alpharetta; great grandson: James Hovanec, Fairfax, VA; his siblings: Robert (Blanche) Hovanec, Ambridge; Shirley (Tom) Foley, Delray Beach, FL; Dolores “Dolly” (Joe, deceased) Zoller, Manchester, PA.
In keeping with Michael’s philosophical wisdom, the family respectfully requests that, in lieu of flowers, you save money where possible, invest wisely, and let your money work for you.
