Catherine “Katie” Gilbert, 93, of Rockford, IL. was welcomed into heaven on Tuesday, December 27, 2016. A life well celebrated. She married William Gilbert in 1946, and together they raised their daughter in a home filled with love, he preceded her in 1992. She lived most of her life in Rockford, until 2010. Katie worked as an inspector and shop clerk for over 25 years at Barber Coleman. She was so proud of her granddaughter, Steph and adored all her great-grandchildren. Katie had a great sense of humor and a perpetual smile. She loved playing bingo and celebrated in the joy of the CUBS victory.
Surived by daughter, Janet (Larry) Fry; granddaughter, Stephanie (Josh) Kewish; eight, great-grandchildren; brother, Sam Latorre. Predeceased by husband; sisters, Mary, Jenny and Annie. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at Sun Valley North and Beloit Regional Hospice for their loving care and comfort.
A celebration of life service: 2:00 p.m. on Tues. Jan. 3, at Advantage Funeral Home 7000 W. State St. Rockford, IL. Visitation: 1:00 ~ 2:00, Burial following at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
