Daniel “Dan” H. Schuelke, 74, of Rockford, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 21, 2024. Dan was born August 23, 1949, in Belvidere, Illinois, to Henry and Dorothy Schuelke. For 32 years, he worked at Chrysler, known by “Tex” to many cherished friends and affiliates. Dan married Betty Ellen Bowman on October 16, 1971. They loved each other dearly, and loved others greatly. They faithfully loved, nurtured, and raised foster children throughout their lives together, which was a huge testament to Dan’s character. He was there for anyone and everyone in need. He was innovative and creative when it came to fixing and repairing things. He even started a lawn care service, which primarily aided senior citizen clients. He loved this job, and his clients became friends. Dan’s strongest attribute was his honesty and intense integrity.
In his free time Dan was always in the mood for a good campfire. He loved hunting, fishing, and camping locally to places such as Rock Cut and Lowden State Park. Above all else, he loved his family and friends immensely. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend to many.
He is survived by his children, Albert Schuelke, Jason Bowman Sr., and Jennifer Bowman; grandchildren, Alyssa Starr and Jason Bowman Jr.; special friends, Ed and Pam Merrill, and Margaret Osborne; several siblings, as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty, and his parents, Henry and Dorothy.
