Jerald Ray Barrett

Jerald Ray Barrett, age 81, of Machesney Park, Illinois passed away on Friday, August 1, 2025 surrounded by his loving family. He was born August 28, 1943 to Clarence and Tessie (Jones) Barrett in Rockford, Illinois.

Jerald loved life to the fullest, being with his wife of 63 years and doing fun things together. He loved to drive in the rain and loved rainy days. He loved to take rides on country roads to sightsee. Sometimes they would stop at little bars, restaurants, and casinos. He will be missed by all.

Jerald is survived by his wife, Charlotte; sons, Jerald Barrett Jr. and Joseph (Debbie) Barrett; sisters, Nancy (Roger) Gregory of Washington and Mary Heavlin of Palm Springs, California; brother, James Barrett of Columbus, Wisconsin; grandkids, Jeff Wibbens, Jake Barrett, Jena Barrett, Cole Barrett, Alex Barrett, Andrew Barrett, Aaron Barrett, and Abby Barrett; great-grandkids, Jeffery, Annabell, Wyatt, and Robin; special sister-in-law, Sandra Jarrett and brother-in-law, Burt Jarrett, they were with him till the end; special nieces, Tara Phillips and Trisha Popoff; and many more family and friends, all of whom he loved.

He is preceded in death by his son, Jeff Barrett (who we really miss) and many family members.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 16 at 10:00 am at Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N Alpine Rd, Machesney Park, Illinois, 61115. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, September 20 at 12:00 pm at the Fraternal Order of Eagles, 3829 11th St, Rockford, Illinois, 61109.
