Lynn Richard "Smitty" Smith Sr.

Lynn Richard “Smitty” Smith Sr, 71, Machesney Park, passed away December 11, 2013. He was born on September 2, 1942 in Detroit Michigan to Robert and Jane (Spurr) Smith. He married Ellen Carlson on June 29, 1963. Lynn loved watching NASCAR, fishing, hunting and trapping. He worked for the Winnebago Sheriff’s Department and later as a machinist for Craftsmith Manufacturing. Lynn is survived by his wife, Ellen; children, Lynn (Colleen) Smith Jr., Lynette (Rick) Story and Barbara (Hywel) Morgan; and grandchildren, Zachary Hull, Paige Hull Bryn Morgan and Lainie Story. He is also survived by his sisters; Linda (Jim) Encheff and Janice Radant. He is preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Janie Pierce; and his beloved dog, Yogi. The family would like to give a special thanks to OSF Hospice, especially nurse, Cindy and Pastor Ed. Memorial service will be held at 3pm, Saturday, December 14, 2013 at Grace Lutheran Church in Loves Park. Reverend Brent Dahlseng will be officiating.
