He was born in Bangor, the second child of Stanley Mason and Ethel Della Chick Lyon. He was raised and attended school in Auburn, graduating from Edward Little High School.
Donald was a severely wounded Purple Heart veteran of the Korean War. He was a very friendly and caring person who loved animals, especially cats, and strived to aid homeless pets.
He held several different jobs in his life. He drove a mail truck and worked in restaurants and ski resorts. His favorite job was a "chauffeur" for Shep Lee's father in Auburn. He made friends easily and was a great prankster, causing many laughs over the years.
He will be sadly missed by his many friends, especially his caretakers, Roy and Amber Richeson and children, Frank of Rumford; the Webster family of Auburn and Poland; the Cox family of Woodstock; and Faylene Webster of Palmyra.
