

She was born on December 24, 1952 to Samuel DiSciullo and Grace Neal in Brighton, Mass.
Marie graduated from Holliston High School in 1970. She went on to earn her Bachelor’s Degree in Theology from the Franciscan University of Steubenville in 1981, her Master’s Degree in Religious Studies from Providence College in 1983, and her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute in 1998, her dissertation being on the topic of “Joy”. Marie was a Benedictine Oblate, was a retreat director for the School of Spiritual Directors at the Monastery of the Risen Christ in San Luis Obispo, CA, taught psychology courses at the college and high school level for many years, was a lecturer, registered counselor, registered funeral attendant, worked with dream analysis, coached weight watchers, sat on numerous dissertation committees, and was a lifelong advocate of mental health and spirituality.
In 2006, Marie was awarded the Bishop John King Mussio Award through the Franciscan University of Steubenville in recognition of distinguished service to the church. She was very proud of this accomplishment.
Marie enjoyed many things in life, though her passion was helping people on their journey through life.
Marie was a proud member of her community, heavily involving herself with the church and liturgical events at Holy Savior Parish, and community groups such as RAAPA.
Marie was a prolific writer and loved to frequently send cards to friends and family. She enjoyed early morning rides to Old Orchard Beach to catch the sunrise and evening rides to Buster’s Beach or the Height of Land to catch the sunset with her husband. She enjoyed frequent trips to Cape Cod with her mother, Debbie and Ellen, Barbara, as well as a good cup of coffee, and a game of Bananagrams or Scrabble.
Marie was predeceased by her father, Samuel DiSciullo.
Marie is survived by her husband of 22 years, Eddy D. Naples; step-daughter Emily Ashby and step-son Neil Naples. She is also survived by her mother Grace L. DiSciullo; her brother Joseph D. DiSciullo and partner Susan Boig; her sister Joanie E. DiSciullo and partner Stephen J. Grande; her sister Sandy L. Hayes; nephew Micheal Hayes and wife Jennifer Hayes; niece Jacqueline Hayes and husband Derek Dennison; niece Julie Burke and husband Josh Burke; her sister Ann L. Barnhart and husband Richard Barnhart; nephews Christopher Barnhart and Conner Barnhart, niece Spencer Barnhart; her brother Daniel N. DiSciullo and partner Felicia Fahey; her brother John DiSciullo and wife MaryLynn; niece Chloe DiSciullo; her sister Jean L. DiSciullo; and her sister Cathy D. DiSciullo.
She is survived by her in-laws Allan and Ginger Patterson; nephew Craig Surrette and niece Jennie Hebert; David and Penny Laplante; niece Jaime Arsenault, nephews Matthew Laplante and Christopher Laplante; Mitzie Naples and Sherwood Jordan; nephew Eli Mann; Mike and Candy Kersey, niece Kathleen Kersey, nephew Michael Kersey Jr.; Bruce and Cindy Ross; nephews Enrico Ross, Spencer Ross, and Hunter Ross; Jimmy Naples and Joan Wood; niece Jessica Naples, nephew Justin Davis; Catherine Napolitano; nephew Mark Ross Jr. and niece Adriarna Mitchell; and many, many great-nieces and great-nephews.
The family wishes to thank Marie’s special friends Diane, Elaine, Maureen, Stephanie, Doris, Mary, Kelly, Fr. Aaron, her sisters in-law, all the doctors, nurses, aides, and all the other friends and family who helped care for Marie during and after her treatments.
A Mass of Christian Burial honoring Marie’s life will be celebrated on Saturday, October 12, 2024 at 10:00 AM at St. Athanasius & St. John’s Church at 126 Maine Avenue in Rumford, Maine. Committal Services will be held at a later date at Farrington-Morton Cemetery in Mexico, Maine. Visitation will be held on Friday, October 11, 2024 from 4-7 PM at Thibault Remembrance Center, 250 Penobscot Street, Rumford, Maine, 207-364-4366.
