

Rumford, ME - Paul E. Roy, 96, resident of St. Petersburg, FL. Born and raised in Rumford, ME passed away on Thursday, August 1, 2024 at Rumford Hospital, surrounded by family. He was the husband of Clara (Bourgeois) Roy.
Paul graduated from Rumford’s Steven High School in 1947. After High School he spent two years at the Oxford Paper Mill, which he was very proud of. He then served as a sergeant in the US Air Force during the Korean War. Upon his honorable discharge, he attended the University of Maine in Orono from which he graduated in 1957. He went to work for New England Telephone, which became AT&T where he spent the next 28 years before retiring in 1985.
For many years Paul and Clara enjoyed traveling the country in their motorhome and were members of the Family Motor Coach Association for 50 years. He was a faithful communicant of Holy Savior Parish in Rumford and Holy Family Parish in St Petersburg, where he was part of their bible study. While in Florida, he and his wife enjoyed 10 pin bowling. He became a teacher of basic bowling instructions, which included Canadians, because he spoke French.
Besides his wife of 73 years, Clara (Bourgeois) originally of Mexico, ME, Paul is survived by their six children: Victor Roy and his wife Lynnette of Suffield, CT, Susan Kelley of Franklin, MA, Alan Roy and his wife MaryAnn of Andover, CT, David Roy and his wife Teresa of Worcester, MA, Daniel Roy and his wife Joan of Jupiter, FL, and Janet Grasso and her husband Victor of North Reading, MA, as well as 15 grandchildren Christopher, Brian, Erin, David, Sarah, Ryan, Daniel, Joseph, Andrew, Michael, Matthew, Jason, Zachary, Victoria and Alexandria and 14 great-grandchildren with another on the way. He also leaves three brothers Gerald, Albert and Charles Roy.
Paul was the eldest of Emile and Armande (St Louis) Roy’s ten children. In addition to them he was predeceased by three sisters (Theresa, Denise and Alice) and three brothers (Laurier, Marcel and Morris)
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, August 6, 2024 at 11 am at Holy Savior Parish, 126 Maine Ave, Rumford. Burial will follow in St John’s Cemetery, Rumford, ME.
