Born in Baltimore, MD on January 8, 1925 he was the son of the late Melvin Seifert and Eleanor Wills Seifert. Wayne was a US Navy veteran of WW II serving from 1940-1945. He married Mary Iola Barbour in 1946 after returning from the war. They settled in La Plata, MD and raised their children there until 1975 when they moved to Sharptown, MD later relocating to Hebron, MD. He started his career as a jeweler and watch repairman. Wayne owned and operated Banner Auto Body Shop in La Plata and Sharptown Hardware Store. Wayne and his wife built many houses in Wicomico County. He had a life-time interest in the repair and restoration of automobiles. He was truly a “Jack of All Trades.”
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife Iola in 2015. He is survived by his five children, Pat Collins, Delmar, MD; Nancy Schwartz and husband Tom of Berlin, MD; Susan Neudeck and husband Joe of Delmar, DE; Fred Seifert and wife Ruth Ann of Cambridge, MD and Florida; and Karen McInturff and husband Barry of St. Augustine, FL. He also leaves behind eleven grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, one great-great granddaughter, and one sister Faye Seifert of Bowie, MD.
Wayne will join his wife of 69 years following interment services on Friday, January 15, 2021 starting at 1:00p.m. at Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Eastern Shore, Hurlock, MD.
