Barbara Jean Blankenship

Barbara J. Blankenship of Salisbury, MD passed away on January 29, 2015. She was born on July 19, 1929 in Cleveland, TN, the daughter of the late G.L. and Grace Jones. For over 25 years Barbara ran a small business with her husband George. Upon moving to the Eastern Shore from Tennessee Barbara and her family became members of Allen Memorial Baptist Church. Her and her husband assisted in two church plants, South Salisbury Baptist (now Oak Ridge Baptist Church) and the First Baptist Church of Fruitland. Barbara was member of the choir and loved music. Prior to her illness, she and her husband attended the First Baptist Church of Delmar. Her passions were her faith and her family. Barbara had the gift of hospitality. She made everyone feel welcomed and loved in her presence. Her heart warming smile and laughter will truly be missed. She is survived by her son, George E. Blankenship, Jr. and his wife Anna Marie Heath Blankenship; her daughter, Donna Blankenship Leffew and her husband Mike D. Leffew; 4 grandchildren, James Blankenship (Florence), Steven Blankenship (Michelle), Erin Leffew, and Samantha Leffew Kenney (Stephen) and 5 great-grandchildren all of Salisbury; sisters, Edna Dunn & Faye Whayland; brother, Ray Jones.. She is preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, George E. Blankenship, Sr. and her brothers Paul Jones, J.D. Jones and J.R. Jones, all of Salisbury, MD. A service will be held Tuesday at 11AM at Bounds Funeral Home on East Main Street in Salisbury where friends may call one hour prior to the service. Rev. Lee Hughart will officiate. Interment will follow in Wicomico Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Coastal Hospice, PO Box 1733, Salisbury, MD 21802.
