She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 67 years, Richard Gordon Wright I, her mother, Della Mae Parsons, her father, Richard Parsons, and her sisters, Beaulah Adkins, Frances Hasting, and Doris White.
Evelyn is survived by her six children: Bruce (Sandy) Elliott, Susan (Bryan) Phillips, Karen Culver, Jeffrey (Jeanne) Elliott, Christine (Rodney) Brown, and Richard (Gerry) Wright II. She leaves behind 13 cherished grandchildren: Jennifer, Kimberly and Jason, special grandson Jason and Holli, Erica, Brandon, Kristen and Marc, Christopher, Courtney, special granddaughter Taylor and Tyler, special grandson Blake, Dallas, Richie, and Gerry. She was also blessed with 11 great-grandchildren: Dylan, Makayla, her namesake Evelyn Mae, Madeleine, Jayden, Jaxson, Aliyah, Matthew, Olivia, Elliott, Cali, and two more great-grandchildren on the way. She is lovingly remembered by her nieces Sherry, Darlene, Yvonne, Beverly, Shelia, and Debbie, and also shared a special bond with her daughter-in-law, Tammy.
Evelyn was blessed with many dear friends including Linda Bounds, Buzz Vlasek, Juanita Willey, Loretta Adkins, and Kim Murphy. She was deeply grateful for the compassionate care provided by her nurse, Ervonya, a special aide, Tonya, and De-De, who always made sure her nails looked sparkly. She also enjoyed check-ins from Tina and Ashley who adopted her as their grandmother and special visits from Dawn and her dog, Chewy, who always made her day.
A woman full of life, Evelyn loved to dance and had a deep appreciation for all kinds of music. She was a longtime member of the Moose Lodge in Salisbury, Maryland. She was dancing in her bed up until the evening before she passed. She enjoyed singing hymns and songs during long car rides with her friend Loretta, shopping and dining out with Kim, sharing laughter and patio picnics with neighbors Linda and Buzz, and going on excursions around town with Juanita and Tammy.
Evelyn had a warm, outgoing personality and was known for her generous hugs and her love of a good joke – “the dirtier, the better.” She enjoyed traveling with her husband to the mountains in Frederick, Maryland and visiting Graceland, as Elvis Presley was always her man. She was a supporter of St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital and Tribal Indian causes. Evelyn loved a cat named Punk with whom she shared a special bond, and a dog named Wolf who was her protector. She fondly remembered her childhood dogs, Ren and Chris, often sharing stories about them.
Though she will be greatly missed, her family finds comfort knowing she is now at peace – happy, healthy, and dancing up a storm once again with her beloved husband. Evelyn’s love and laughter will remain in our hearts forever and ever!
