He was the associate pastor of Grace United Methodist Church, handled visitation of the shut-ins, taught a bible study each Wednesday at the church, sang with the choir, and served in various other ministries of the church.
Harry graduated from Bethesda/ Chevy Chase High School in Bethesda, Maryland in 1949. He served in the United States Navy from 1949- 1953, receiving an honorable discharge. He joined the Montgomery County Police Department in 1955 and served the Bethesda and Silver Spring areas for 27 years. Following retirement, he joined Martin Marietta Corporation for 11 years retiring in 1989.
He studied law and criminology at the University of Maryland and studied for the ministry at the University of Biblical Studies., completing the advanced studies in 1987. He was ordained as a Minister of the Gospel in 1989 and served in several pastorates in the Silver Spring area prior to moving to Salisbury, Maryland in 1999. He was installed as associate pastor of Grace United Methodist Church in 2010 where he served until his death.
He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Kathryn Lorraine Weir; two daughters by marriage: Tammy Jo Byrge of Georgetown, South Carolina; Lynda Kay Robinson (Robert) of Gaithersburg, Maryland; and one granddaughter: Carrie Anne Byrge of Georgetown, South Carolina. He was preceded in death by a son-in-law Timothy Byrge.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday at 11am at Grace United Methodist Church in Salisbury where friends may visit one hour prior to the service. Rev. Jay Arthur Hurley will officiate. Interment will be held Wednesday, January 26, 2022 at 2pm at Maryland Veterans Cemetery Eastern Shore in Hurlock.
