Sharon S Downing

Sharon S. Downing, 68, of Fruitland passed away Friday, August 18, 2017 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center. Born in Salisbury she was the daughter of the late Charles W. and Marie Smith Shores. A 1966 graduate of James M. Bennet High School, Sharon became a Registered Nurse and worked at PRMC for 35 years and helped develop the Dialysis Unit at the hospital. She was a very dedicated and caring nurse. An animal lover Sharon spent a lot of time caring for abused and abandoned animals and was a member of the ASPCA. She was a member of the Community of Joy Church of the Brethren in Salisbury. Sharon was a 12 year survivor of Glioblastoma Multiforme. She is survived by two brothers, John W. Shores and his wife Robin and Wayne F. Shores; niece, Kimberly J. Shores; Nicole White, who was like a daughter to her; cousins, Robert Simms, Paige Simms, and Michael Simms; and her cat Prissie. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, David Downing and aunt, Mattie Brown. A graveside service will be held Thursday at 11am at Shad Point Cemetery. Rev. Martin Hutchinson will officiate.
