Alice Catherine Forehand, 95, went to be with our Lord on Monday, November 18, 2019. She passed away peacefully in her sleep. She was born in San Antonio, Texas to Oscar and Annie Braendle on February 9, 1924. Alice grew up with her sister, Frances, attended St Ann’s grade school and graduated from Fox Tech High School in 1932. She met and married a young World War II sailor, August William Forehand on October 9, 1948. They had four children, Mary Jane, Rose, who died in infancy, Bill and Margaret who they raised in their home they bought when they were married. She lived in their home for 68 years until she could no longer live on her own. Alice was a woman of strength, great character, faith and knowledge. She devoted her life to caring for her children, supporting her husband in his own business and being a special neighbor and friend to all those around her. Alice was also very involved in her church, serving in the Altar Society at Little Flower Catholic Church and later as a devoted member of Christ the King Catholic Church. Alice had a special relationship with each of her 10 grandchildren and was always remembered to have the best toys waiting in a special drawer when they would come over. She rejoiced in welcoming her 17 great grandchildren as they came along.
Alice and August loved to travel. From family getaways, day trips with their group of friends or long road trips with just the two of them. She was an avid reader and a wealth of information. Alice was the original Google. She was a gifted seamstress and made a lot of her children’s clothes including prom dresses for her daughters. Alice was also very crafty and meticulous with her projects.
She lovingly cared for her mother in her home as she aged and provided prolonged and devoted care to her husband over the last several years of his life. After a significant fall resulting in surgery, Alice was unable to return to her own home, but she found excellent care at St. Francis Nursing Home. While she was no longer mobile, she remained alert, talkative and making jokes until her final few days. One of her favorites was when someone would ask ‘how do you feel’ – she’d answer “with my hands”.
