Bertha Garza, beloved sister and aunt, entered eternal rest on August 17, 2013 at the age of 72. She was born in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico to Jesus and Irene Garza on March 25, 1941. She lived most of her life in San Antonio, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Jesus Humberto and Jorge Arturo. She is survived by her sister, Blanca Alma Trevino (George); brothers Joel Americo, Jesus Alberto (Emma), Javier Alonso and Juan Angel (Sylvia); sister-in-law, Esther; numerous nieces and nephews and her beloved Aunt, Hortencia Martinez, (97) who raised her from infancy.
Bertha, who was known to most of her family as Ara and by numerous friends and co-workers as Betty, will be greatly missed. She graduated in 1962 from Brackenridge High School and attended Palo Alto College as an adult. She had several jobs during her lifetime but the most recent and the one she enjoyed the most was as a substitute teacher at McCollum High School. She loved her Cowboys and they responded easily and affectionately towards her. Many of them dedicated their graduation, athletic and prom photos to her as though she were a beloved family member. She loved to travel and vacation with our Tia Tencha or with her friends. She loved to visit with family. She and Tia Tencha made it a point to attend weddings, anniversary celebrations, family reunions and funerals wherever they were held.
She will be missed and remembered fondly by those whose lives she touched. Rest in peace, our dear sister, until we meet again. You will forever remain in our hearts.
A Memorial Service will be held at 12:00 Noon, Saturday, August 24, 2013 at Funeraria Del Angel Roy Akers. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to The American Diabetes Association. Please visit www.funerariadelangelroyakers.com for online tributes.
