Derek Lewis Matyear, entered in to rest on December 24th, 2013 at the age of 83. A devoted husband and dedicated father; he will be remembered as a man of humor and love. After serving in the United States Air Force as Staff Sergeant he began his career for the San Antonio Metropolitan Health District where he retired after 35 years as the Director of Environmental Health. He was also an avid hunter and outdoors man. He is survived by his devoted wife, Ana Maria C. Matyear, loving daughter Ana Maria (Annie) Matyear, and two children from previous marriage, Karen and Kevin. The family will receive friends at Funeraria Del Angel Roy Akers on Sunday, December 29th at 5:00 p.m. with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, December 30th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul Catholic Church, 350 Sutton Dr. with a departure from the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. Interment will follow at San Fernando Catholic Cemetery III.
