She was born in San Antonio, Texas on January 4, 1932 to Felicitas and Eloy Cortez. In 1955 Evangeline married the love of her life, Rudolfo A. Casas and together they raised three daughters: Debbie, Adela, and Elizabeth.
Evangeline was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She graduated from Fox Tech High School. She was a stay-at-home mom for several years and went on to be a commercial bank teller for over twenty years. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, ceramics, reading, but most of all, playing with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved to travel and go on cruises. More importantly she loved going to church and serving the Lord. She lived a long, beautiful life that will leave an impact on generations to follow.
Evangeline is preceded in death by her husband Rudolfo and brother Danny Cortez.
She is survived by her daughters: Debbie (Ernest) Estrada, Adela (David) Butterbaugh, and Elizabeth (Jon) Villarreal. She was a kind and loving grandmother who will be dearly missed by her 6 grandchildren – Erica (Angel), Lauren (Danny), Jaden, Amy, William (Kaitlin), Michael and 7 great-grandchildren – Aria, Elijah, James Daniel, Isabella, Memphis, Clementine and Prince, her two brothers - Richard and Gilbert and countless other family and friends.
A visitation beginning at 6:00 pm followed by a service at 7:30 pm will be held on Sunday, January 26, 2025 at Roy Akers Funeral Home, 515 N. Main Ave. San Antonio, Texas. Funeral services will begin at 12:00 pm on Monday, January 27, 2025 at Roy Akers Funeral Home followed by a procession for a graveside service at 2:30pm at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach San Antonio, Texas.
