George Henry Chronis, an adopted son of God because of Jesus Christ, died in San Antonio, Texas on January 3, 2025 at the age of 99. He was born in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin on August 9, 1925 to Harry Chronis and Harriet Marie Vandervort. He enlisted in the U.S. Army during World War Il and flew warplanes in both the Army Air Corps and the United States Air Force. He retired as a Colonel after more than 30 years of service, including World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam conflict. He received customary combat and service decorations and awards. He earned a BS degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Colorado. He was preceded in death by his beloved and only wife Iris and his mother, father, and only sister Betty Lou Russell. He and Iris are survived by their five wonderful children: Gail Ann McWhorter and husband Ted, Rev. Harry Lock Chronis and wife Karen, Iris Kay Simmer, Lisa Ellen Chronis, and Terise Robin Boggs and husband Wayne; and by eleven grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. After retirement from the USAF, George taught math, physics, and a flight course in Austin, Texas high schools before becoming a realtor for twenty-five years. He was a life member of Tau Beta Pi and the Military Officers Association, and was a long-time member of The Gideons International. After he came to faith in Jesus Christ, he sought out and was active in the church at every turn, serving as an Elder for many years. George preferred that any who wish to remember him materially make use of the Gideon Card program; free Gideon Card displays can often be found in local churches and funeral homes. George will join his wife Iris in Christian burial at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at 11:30 AM on Wednesday, January 29, 2025 with the Rev. Joe Moore, Associate Pastor of First Presbyterian Church of San Antonio presiding. After interment, a celebration of George's life and a witness to the Resurrection will take place in Christian worship at the church, 404 N Alamo Street, 78205, followed by a brief reception for family and friends.
