

Guadalupe “Lupe” Jones Samaniego, age 77 died peacefully last Thursday in his home surrounded by his loving family. The owner of Samaniego Construction, Lupe was a carpenter who found great satisfaction and success building everything from birdhouses with his grandchildren, to home additions and commercial construction. As a boy, he helped in his father’s construction business, learning the importance of integrity and the Golden Rule. He carried this with him later, as an employee of Kelly Field, where he made many long-time friends and acquaintances. He was a good man who placed utmost importance on his family and home, and will be greatly missed. Guadalupe was preceded in death by his parents, Hipolito and Grace Samaniego and a brother, Patrick. He is survived by his wife, Stella C. Samaniego; sons, Patrick Samaniego and James Sherrod; daughter, Laura Perry-Samaniego; daughters-in-law, Terry Samaniego and Lenora Perry-Samaniego. He will be especially missed by grandchildren: Becca, Samuel, James, Grace, and Gabrielle who adored their “Popo.” He also leaves his brother, Paul and sisters, Dolores and Diane, as well as numerous nieces and nephews whom he loved very much. The family will receive friends at 6:00 p.m., Sunday, June 3, 2012 to celebrate a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. A funeral mass will be held Monday, June 4, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 4603 St. John's Way San Antonio, TX 78212. Interment will follow in San Fernando Cemetery II.
