Ignacio P. Chavez passed peacefully from this earth to be with God in his eternal home on Saturday May 2, 2020 at the age of 99. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Anna Marie Perez Chavez and his parents Teodoro and Apolonia Chavez.
He is survived by his three sons and their spouses, Roger (Guadalupe), Richard (Dorothy), and Ralph (Joyce). He was blessed with six grandchildren Roger Louis, John Anthony, Veronica, Janelle Moreno (Peter), Amanda, and Matthew Chavez and three great grandchildren Juliana, Aubriana, and Jace Moreno. He is also survived by his sister Alicia Del Bosque, and many loving family members, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Ignacio graduated from San Felipe High School, Del Rio, Texas in 1939. He proudly served in the United States Army during WWII in the European theater campaign. He was in the 984th Signal service company as a radio teletype operator where he transmitted and received coded military messages. After serving his country, he worked at Kelly Air Force Base as an aircraft radio mechanic and retired in 1975. Following his retirement, his knowledge and love for electronics lead him to pursue an in-home TV repair business. He was a parishioner at Christ the King Catholic Church and a member of the VFW Post 8936.
He had a passion for fishing and hunting and he shared his love for the outdoors with his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed tending to his garden and happily shared peaches, plums, and figs from his many fruit trees. He also enjoyed playing poker, dominoes, and loteria and looked forward to family gatherings where he could demonstrate his skills. Mr. Chavez had a sharp mind and a comical sense of humor. He had a fierce sweet tooth and especially loved donuts and pan dulce. He was a kind, generous soul and was always willing to provide prudent advice, lend a helping hand, and share stories of his life experiences. He will be deeply missed.
The family wishes to express sincerest appreciation for the love, kindness, and loyal dedication Mr. Chavez received from his care giver, Irma Estrada. The years she devoted to caring for him allowed him to live comfortably in his home surrounded by family and friends.
Due to restrictions on gatherings, services will be an intimate family gathering at this time. An open visitation will be available on Tuesday, May 12, from 6 PM to 9 PM, with limited capacity.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests you please consider making a donation to Meals on Wheels or your favorite charity in memory of Mr. Chavez.
