Irene Longoria Bazan, age 92, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 18, 2024. Irene was born in San Antonio Texas on June 25, 1931. She is preceded in death by her parents Isabel V. and Justo R. Longoria, brothers Frank J. Longoria and David R. Longoria, sisters Betty L. Tijerina and Gloria L. Cantu. She is survived by daughter Patricia Bazan Carle and her husband Patrick, son Arthur Bazan III; granddaughters Jennifer Carle Wilson and her husband Christopher, Tiffany Carle Traynor and her husband Matthew; great grandchildren Campbell Wilson, Carly Wilson, Logan Florence, Hayden Lynn Florence, Hannah Traynor; sisters Gina Busselman and her husband Willard, Neomi Harrell and her husband Virgil; numerous nephews, nieces and friends.
Irene played fast pitch softball as a young woman. She played catcher back in the day wearing only a simple face mask, no other protective gear. She played in slow pitch softball church leagues as an adult. Her enthusiasm for sports was her trademark. She always read first the sports section of the newspaper then the other sections. Irene watched whatever pro or college game was televised. She was very proud of her grands’ and great-grands’ athletic accomplishments. Irene was a passionate Spurs fan recording televised games, enjoying some games in person and celebrating the Spurs championships on the River Walk.
The family extends their sincere gratitude to the staff at The Waterford at Thousand Oaks Senior Living and Guiding Light Hospice for their friendship and attention. Special thanks to Lindsey and Dan Tanta owners of Hollywood Park Assisted Living who provided Irene compassionate care in a loving family environment.
A visitation for Irene will be held Friday, February 2, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM with a rosary at 7:00 PM at Funeraria Del Angel Roy Akers, 515 North Main Ave, San Antonio, TX 78205. A funeral mass will occur Saturday, February 3, 2024 at 10:00 AM at St. Ann Catholic Church, 210 St Ann St, San Antonio, TX 78201. A graveside service will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 1701 Austin Hwy, San Antonio, TX 78218.
