

John was called home to the Lord on November 1, 2016 at the age of 68. He was born in San Antonio, Texas and was a long time resident in San Francisco, California. His parents, Henry and Belia Carranco, precede John in death. Our beloved brother is survived by his brothers: Henry (Nancy), Charles (Mary), Jerry (Anna), sisters: Suzanne (Robert) and Rosemary. His nieces: Leslie, Natalie, Cynthia, Jennifer, Belinda, Victoria, and Theresa, nephews: Sean, Robert, and Michael and many cousins.
John was a member of the fellowship of Alcoholics Anonymous. He had over 31 years of sobriety. He had countless beloved friends in San Francisco and we appreciate their kindness and love. He was very active in numerous community outreach programs in San Francisco.
John graduated from Harlandale in 1966 and joined the Marines in 1967. He valiantly serviced our country during the Vietnam War and was awarded several prestigious metals, which included a Purple Heart.
Visitation will be at Roy Akers from 5pm-9pm with a Rosary at 7pm on Sunday, November 20th. Mass will be at St. Leo’s Catholic Church at 9:30am on Monday 21st with procession to interment at Fort Sam Houston Cemetery.
John was very active mentor in the San Francicsco Intercounty Fellowship Alcoholics Anonymous and helped many members stay sober. His friends from the Fellowship held a memorial for him in San Francisco where over a hundred people showed up to share stories about his life.
Our brother will always be remembered as a kind and loving soul.
His favorite saying to pass on was “Let Go Let God”.
